Camino Days 12, 13 and Rest Day

Day 12: 6am start in the dark from Belorado to San Juan de Ortega. Reached a part where there was a ton of fog and a ridiculous amount of humidity. Two things you definitely want when hiking up (another mountain). My hair was soaked fromthe humidity and the view was, well.... 😂

After a while it cleared up and then it got HOT and sunny (which is part of the reason I left so early.

After walking for what seemed like an eternity with NO shade, I arrived in the “town” of San Juan de Ortega where I ran into Marie and Florian! They were going to walk to the next town, but we decided we’d catch up the following day when weall landed in Burgos.  We also reminisced about our amazing meal back in Zubiri!https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=10e4O3pANZC2Fky35in8RtWCfaWSaIj1d
I checked into my hotel and took a nap. Then walked to get something to eat and there were Tinaand Daniela! We chatted for a bit and the Gabriela (from Romania) walked into town. She found a spot in the woods (off that brutal no shade path) and just took a nap for an hour!! Love it!
Some more people joined (Larissa from Brazil, a man from Rome and some guys from Ireland ) and we just sat and talked (technology free!!!).
Then I went to dinner and after that, in the church, there was a Mozart concert that I went to listen to. Next day would be a long trek to Burgos, so Daniela, Tina and I agreed to meet at 6am and get a head start!

However, seeing the sunrise again was well worth it.

Today was the second day out of my who trip where I spent the whole day walking with people and it was nice.  First stop was early one for coffee and a snack in the town of Ages.

There was a good amount of cloud cover for the first part of the day.  We had to hike up and over a very rocky mini-mountain.

There was a great breeze and it started to drizzle a bit, which we were grateful for.  However, when we heard thunder and realized we were walking with metal poles out in the open we quickly moved to tree cover!
Then, way off we saw the city of Burgos. This is the camino though, so it disappeared for a few hours as we hiked.  We made another pit stop and ran into... you guessed it! Marie and Florian again.  Marie has messaged me with info about a path that took you off the asphalt pathways to Burgos and brought you along the river.  We headed off and separated for a bit on different paths.  When we got to the outskirts of Burgos (with over an hour left to walk), we stopped for lunch and Tina managed to get some more free food😊 the river path had some shade, but was 100 times better than walking through the industrial section.

Us three grown women then devolved into “are we there yet?” “How much time is left!”  We decided to play a game to keep us busy and the Marie and Florian caught up with us again and joined in. Once we got to the main part of the city we went to our separate lodging locations.  My hotel had a bath so I filled it with freezing cold water to soak my feet a legs (and it was awesome).
The five of us from th day meet up for pre-dinnertapas and then... Karina!!! My first walking buddy over the Pyrenees joined us!! I hadn’t seen her since we left Roncesvalles, but her and Tina has been texting. We all went out for more food and good conversation.

Baby eels😊

Today was sadly Marie and Florian’s last day on the camino😞 they’re moving on to a new travel adventure! Tina and I went and got ice cream with them and then we said over goodbyes.

Rest Day in Burgos - been to Burgos before withdad a few years ago, but the cathedral was closed and we had to get to Valladolid.

I met Tina and Daniela for breakfast and then weheaded to the Burgos Cathedral. It was absolutely beautiful, but it was so big and so decorative that it was quite overwhelming we all agreed.

After that Tina and Daniela said goodbye and went back to the camino. I grabbed my laundry and went to the laundromat and read a book.https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1BSQVV1xzzLhavXE58AhL0kDc88f3Uwie
On my way back to grab some lunch I ran into Marie and Florian again!  We chatted for a bit and then I found a place with air-conditioning to eat.

Finally, siesta time. After siesta I headed to two more churches in the city and then walked up to the former castle (I’m clearly awful at rest days....) the view was great, but then it started to drizzle so I headed down to grab some dinner and I ran into... Marie and Florian again😂😂😂😂
