Camino Day 10 and 11

Day 10: Najera to Santo Domingo de la Calzada
It was suppose to be hot today, and although I left later than I had wanted to, I was out and walking by 6:45. The weather was great for most of the walk. Lots of vineyards and more hay.  I made it to my hotel which is part of hospital (?) and aconvent for nuns (the nuns checked me in).

I went to get a late lunch and ran into Tina and the woman from Amsterdam from yesterday (Danielle- a mediator a conflict resolution coach) so I sat with them for awhile and ate. Then we all agreed we’d probably skip dinner so we headed to the grocery store to buy snacks and then went to our respective homes for the evening. Thanks to WiFi I watched a movie on my phone and rested my legs.
Tina found a group making paella on the street and since she’s a chef she ask for a “taste” and this is what she got:

Day 11: Santo Domingo de la Calzada to Belorado
Woke up and checked the weather. When I discovered the majority of the morning was cloud cowe it was a great excuse to leave at 7:15 insteadon 6:30.
On the way to the first town I ran into a mother (from Florida) and her daugher (whip works for a company in France that sells model cars). I’d met them the morning of the wine fountain. Today they were done with their Camino for now and we’re heading back to France.

The walk wasn’t too bad as there were about 4 small towns along the way. At the first town I met a man from South Africa, a man from Spain and a woman from Romania who owns a ceramics studio. Somehow we started talking about Netflix and the Romanian woman mentioned that thanks to some show on Netflix her daughter wanted to move to North Carolina for high school 😂
After the third town I ended up walking with the Spaniard who is an environmental engineer and a woman named Lanka who is a teacher in Slovakia.  We talked about education in our countries, language, taxes and of course.... what was wrong with the current leader of the US😬 (I have to meet someone from any country who doesn’t want to ask how he became president and is looking for assurance that most Americans can’t possibly think the way he does...).
We stopped for a drink (because I ❤️ Coca Cola with real sugar! and I had tortilla). The sun was out for the last 3 miles, but it wasn’t too bad.
We also left the region of Rioja and entered Castille León.

Truth👇🏻

Now I’m staying in a cute hostel in Belorado. At the hostel I had dinner with two men from South Korea (who are also concerned about el Presidente....). However, we had a great broken English conversation and here are some fun facts about Korea:
- Over 70 mountains; people of South Korea love hiking
- drugs of any sort are highly illegal. They test you when you come back from traveling abroad and if you test positive for pot... arrested.
- when you’re born you are automatically 1. Everyone changes age on Jan 1, but you still celebrate your birthday on the day of your birth. So everyone born in 1976 is already 43.
- military is cumpulsory for 2 years for males (mainly due to a heavy militarized N. Korea)
- only people the same age as you can be calledyour friend, people of other ages are referred to as your brother or sister.
- the government regulates certain online gaming (EA Games) and shut them off at 10 so teens don’t play games all night.
- up until 5 years ago it was legal for teachers to hit students 😬😬😬
Fun facts for the evening.
