Day 5: hiked out of Pamplona with a super sore hip flexor. After taking time to stop and stretch it all was good. As I started to reach the edge of the city a rainbow appeared and that was followed with a loud ābangā to start the last running of the bulls for the year.
I walked along lots of wheat and sunflower fieldswhich was lovely, but then I realized I had to hikeup to a pass between windmills. It was super windy, but the view was great.

They way down was not too great due to the fact that the path down was just lots and lots of loose stones (that goodness for slow walking and hiking poles). Then the trail evened out into morefields with no shade (Iām very good about my sunscreen schedule, but even wearing 50 SPF I have tan lines...)

Home base for the night was in Puente la Reina. There I had dinner with a woman from Italy who is met the first night. However, she only speak Italian and, well. I donāt, so most of our interactionswere āhello/goodbyeā Luckily she remembered that we have modern technology so luckily she could translate to English and I could translate to (very poorly spoke ) Italian. Turns out she is a teacher in Naples!
Day 6: Puente la Reina to Estella
Hills.... all the hills. However there were not crazy rocky descents today which was a plus. Therewas very little shade today, so multiple reapplications of sunscreen were in order.
In Estella I arrived at the start of their medieval celebration (which is cool because unlike in the US, itās actually ina medieval town!)
I also had dinner with an Irish couple who Iād runinto a few nights back. Turns out they both teach high school in Dublin so we ended up comparing school systems. Time for bed. Long day ahead (day 3 of 13+ miles....) Iām staying in a hostel that used to be a tannery so the building is pretty cool.
